Font - When my dogs are wrestling in the house I say "Shakira Shakira" to stop them. I just blurted it out one day and it stuck. I got the inspiration from the beginning of "Hips Don't Lie" when Wyclef says "No fighting. Shakira Shakira"

Font - benji950 I tell my dog, That's enough out of you. We also sometimes have discussions about 9 days ago how we're not being invaded and I do thank her for protecting the castle.

Font - LoudNinjah 9 days ago Oh my gosh I said guard the castle to my dog. Cute.

Font - shortnsweet33. 9 days ago My dog knows "not our door" if she's barking at an outside noise from when we lived in an apartment. Still works despite no longer being in an apartment haha

Font - Patient-Spot4948. 9 days ago I had one that would bark when someone rang a doorbell on TV. I would yell TV over his barking and he would settle down.

Font - Arrives Witha Beverage 9 days ago My dog knows "physics" means to stay on the same side of a tree/pole/etc as me when he's on leash. It started out as "that's not how physics works" when he got wrapped around the tree, then became "remember your physics!" And now it's just "physics" and he changes course so he doesn't get tangled.

Font - Dave_DLG 9 days ago I think there's some advantage in using nonsense words as they'll only hear them in the context of commands, not get confused with them arising in general conversation.

Font - EmergencySriracha OP. 9 days ago That's why I do it! Had to start when I adopted a dog named Cheese. We say fromage now when talking about the dairy product.

Font - Veganarchistfem. 8 days ago I had a dog who would salivate uncontrollably at just the sound of the word "banana", and would shake with anxiety until he got one to eat. Even though we lost him to old age, we still call them "curved yellow fruits" in our house.

Font - RoxyAndFarley 9 days ago . Not a nonsense word but a nonsense usage of a word - one of my dogs is seriously obsessed with eating acorns, which are very unhealthy for dogs. It's the only item that he won't listen to "leave it" command with (he will leave it for literally everything else including steak, but acorns are apparently just too enticing). So one day when I was annoyed I tried convincing him it was poop by saying "ewww yucky! That's poops!" and he immediately backed away and looke

Font - 7saligia 9 days ago Kai Ken I use "nips" for a counter-spin. Because it's "spin" backwards. My trainer also laughs at me whenever we do "sit pretty" because I use "dapper."

Font - trixiecat 9 days ago "Beep! Beep!" Is the command to move out of the way. The whole family picked it up too and the humans say it to each other in my parents and sister's houses. I think one day I told my dog to beep beep like the noise a truck makes backing up.

Font - HailCorduroy Bear: Pit Bull + - 9 days ago Australian/German... Not a nonsense word, but we use "long dog" as command for Bear to lay on his belly and then crawl forward with his front paws so his rear legs are stretched out.

Font - DangerousLack - 9 days ago I don't know how it started, but if my dog poops off-leash, "show me" will get him to escort me to the poop. It's surprisingly helpful!

Font - shortnsweet33 - 9 days ago When I was doing cooperative care nail filing training with my dog, I unintentionally was making a "doooop" sound when I'd touch the file on her paw or nail. And "doop doop doop" as I'd file. She'll happily hand me the paw and hold still for filing if I do the doop sounds while filing. Whoops A Now that I'm introducing a dremel I'm going to try and not do that but might have to resort to it lol

Font - jajjjenny 9 days ago We are big Letterkenny fans and use Pitter Patter as a "let's go" command when we want our pup to follow us.

Font - clarkmarie 9 days ago Two of my dogs recall words ended up being "Damnit," "Cheese," and "Attention" Attention was a joke because my husband's in the military, so it was funny to call the dogs to attention. Then that stopped working for a bit so I would ask him if he wanted cheese, and then the cheese part stuck. My dogs names are Deckard and Duncan, and I can never think of which one I am actually trying to call at the moment. So I always end up calling them wrong and then would curse ab

Font - Cmss2209 days ago I take my German shepherd (Ecco) out on hikes all the time. One path we often take has rocks and is very steep. I slip constantly on this little part of the trail. When I go down this part I'll say "slow down Ecco I'm an old man" and she somehow picked up on the words "old man" to mean slow down. So now if I want her to slow down or stop pulling I'll say "old man" and she will pause and look back and check on me then proceed very carefully. If I say "slow down" she doesn

Font - LadyAlexTheDeviant 9 days ago I have named a dog Sergeant Pickles. He knows "Report", "Rack up (go in your crate", "Stand down" (When alerting me that a package was delivered or someone's at the door" and "KP" (for those times when I need a roasting pan precleaned).

Font - BodyBy711 9 days ago "Bump it" instead of "touch" "Walk nicely please" instead of "Heel!" (My Canadian is showing) "Ready to boogie?" ... if he starts heading to the gate, he is indeed ready to boogie on out of the dog park. "Mind ya business" - mostly used in elevators so he isn't all up in neighbours' grocery bags etc
